Full STEAM Ahead Afterschool Maker Camp

Generator’s Full STEAM Ahead Program is a 5-week afterschool maker camp for students in grades 5-8. During the program students will participate in a unique set of hands-on experiences while learning practical skills and have an amazing time at Burlington’s favorite makerspace.

Week 1: Custom Vinyl T-Shirts

Session 1 – Thursday, March 13th, 3:30-5:30pm
Session 2 – Thursday, May 1st, 3:30-5:30pm

Dive into the world of custom t-shirt making! In this session, students get to design a t-shirt from start to finish. Work with Adobe Illustrator (professional graphic design software), our vinyl cutter and a heat press to design a truly one-of-a-kind t-shirt.

Week 2: Ox-Yoke Puzzle

Session 1 – Thursday, March 20th, 3:30-5:30pm
Session 2 – Thursday, May 8th, 3:30-5:30pm

It WOODN’T be a Makerspace without a little bit of wood working! The Ox-Yoke puzzle is a tribute to an old farming tool but with an interesting twist: making it into a puzzle. Students will walk away with a woodworking project leaving them, well, puzzled! Learn basic hand tools and wood working practices with this unique experience.

Week 3: Metal Art

Session 1 – Thursday, March 27th, 3:30-5:30pm
Session 2 – Thursday, May 15th, 3:30-5:30pm

Jump into the basics of metalsmithing! Explore and experience the craft of shaping metal with materials, tools, and design concepts. Make a pendant, necklace, charm, personalized coin, or a dog-tag. The choice is yours!

Week 4: Wooden Caddy

Session 1 – Thursday, April 3rd, 3:30-5:30pm
Session 2 – Thursday, May 22nd, 3:30-5:30pm

Ready to take woodworking to the next level? Practice basic woodworking skills by assembling, building, and decorating a wooden caddy. Cut, file, sand, hammer, and construct a caddy that you can use for gardening, keeping collectables, storing tools, you name it! This is a popular project that will leave you confident using basic woodworking tools.

Week 5: Electromagnetic Desktop Swing

Session 1 – Thursday, April 10th, 3:30-5:30pm
Session 2 – Thursday, May 29th, 3:30-5:30pm

Curious about electricity, LEDs, and soldering? This fun project makes it easy to explore and understand! Learn the basics of soldering with a printed circuit board and build a swing powered by an electromagnet!
