Workshops

How are workshops priced?

• Prices are based on required materials, usage of space, class capacity, compensation requirements, etc. 

How are workshops promoted?

• We’ll share the workshop through our social channels and email newsletter. You’re welcome and encouraged to share it with your friends, family, and networks – the more people who hear about it, the better!

What experience requirements do you have?

• None! No teaching experience is required. We want first time instructors and seasoned professionals to have the opportunity to share their knowledge.

Do I need to be a U.S. citizen to teach a workshop?

• You need to be able to work legally in the U.S. and provide tax documentation (W-9 form) for payment. 

What if my idea isn’t fully formed?

• No worries… Just let us know what you are hoping to teach by submitting this brief FORM. This isn’t a commitment, it’s just the start of a conversation, and we’ll work with you to figure out the details.

What if no one signs up?

• If no one signs up we first try to push the date out a month and try promoting again. If that doesn’t work we’ll discuss why interest could be low and make adjustments. Sometimes things just don’t work, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.

What if I don’t know how to price it?

• We’ll work together to identify all the costs that go into it so it is priced appropriately.

What if I need special equipment or tools?

• As part of our materials list we can order any special equipment or tools that are required for the workshop. It’s great to utilize what Generator already has, but we don’t have everything and that’s ok.

How far in advance do I need to plan?

• We try to post the workshop at least one month before the start date so we have adequate time to share and promote. Finalizing all the details of the workshop can take a week or two so we recommend starting the process at least 6 weeks in advance… But more time is better.

Can I host multiple workshops?

• Absolutely. If you have multiple ideas that have a consistent theme, but don’t build on one another, we can post them as a series of individual workshops.
  
  Examples of this include or Kitchen Wood Carving Series or our Play with Clay Series where each one focused on a different project or technique.
  
  If the sessions do build off of each other, it usually makes more sense to create a single workshop with multiple sessions spread out over multiple days or weeks.

Can I teach with a partner or co-instructor?

• Absolutely! More teachers allows for more participants to enjoy your workshop!

What if my workshop idea is really niche?

• We love niche! Niche offerings often have a competitive advantage because they aren’t widely available. The challenge can be making sure we let the right people or community know about it.

What if I can only teach on specific dates?

• We always do our best to work with your schedule. If you’re dates are limited it might take longer for our schedule to open up depending on what other things are happening.

Will you provide all the materials?

• We’ll work together to determine the best way to handle materials. Depending on the workshop, we can either purchase supplies directly or compensate you for materials and/or tools you provide.

What if I want to test out a workshop idea first?

• We’d be happy to test it with you. There are many people here at Generator that would love to be your guinea pig.

Can I run the same workshop multiple times?

• Absolutely. As long as there is interest in the community and a willing instructor we’re happy to offer workshops on a recurring basis. Additionally, unning a workshop multiple times creates an opportunity to refine and improve the class, and that helps us ensure we are providing the best experience possible.
